What’s your favourite movie?

This question was asked last night and I couldn’t think of an answer. There are movies that I’ll watch again and again like The Shawshank Redemption, The Princess Bride, Caddyshack, The Matrix, The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, and The Breakfast Club. My wife watches Love Actually every Christmas, and I’ll watch it with her. We watch Elf as a family every Christmas too. But are any of these my favourite? I don’t know?

I think if you ask me this question tomorrow, a different movie might come to mind. Maybe The Usual Suspect, The Dirty Dozen, Kelly’s Heroes, or a cult classic like The Cube, Bladerunner, or a comedy like Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

I think the challenge of me being asked this question is that there are not a lot of movies that I’ll ever watch twice. So there are countless great movies that I watched and loved and never went back to. Every one of the movies I’ve mentioned above have broken that rule… I’ve seen them many times and so they simply come to mind easier.

Are you someone that has an all-time favourite, or a top 3? Or do you bounce around like me?

There are a few movies that my both husband and I enjoyed and have enjoyed watching again and again, even if we catch one well in on TV and watch the remainder of it. There are a few that I have declared: We simply cannot watch that one anymore! But we probably will 🙂

I usually equate favourites to ones that I have watched a number of times. Here is my mixed lot of sappy, romcom, and action fiims that comes to mind: Good Will Hunting, Dances With Wolves, Serendipity, Bourne Identity, Notting Hill, Face Off, While You Were Sleeping, Double Jeopardy, The Fugitive… It would be difficult to pick an all time fav or top 3. The choices would probably bounce around over time too, but I think there would be some that always stay in my top 10.

I like hearing what others list to remind me of some that I have forgotten about — some good ones noted on this post already! I feel there is a movie/talent “void” now, unless that is my age talking. I can’t imagine what it takes to be an actor now. But I digress 🙂

I love the Bourne series and yes, while I think there are some that will always be in my top ten, I agree with you that my favourite would change.
One thing you’ve made me think about Sheila is that there are some movies I’d watch over that I wouldn’t put in my top 10, mostly comedies. My wife absolutely loves Brides Maids and while I’ve enjoyed watching with her a number of times, and would again, there’s no way I’d put that one in my top 10.
