My wife and I have a game we play when we go on camping trips. We always forget something and we see how quickly we can figure it out. Today it was coffee mugs. We’ll use the provided mugs in the trailer we rented. We arrived at the campground and started to unpack, and then my daughter realized she left her bathing suite. So my wife and daughter are on their way to Walmart, and I’m headed for a hike with my buddy once he finishes dinner.
It doesn’t matter how many times we travel, how many things we have packed in advance, there’s always something we leave behind… and since we make it a game, it doesn’t bother us at all.
We do the same thing! We then have a “fee” we pay we pay when we forget like I forgot to bring straps for putting up our tarp so I chose to cook all the meals on the first day. It makes it fun and we all end up having to “pay” doing something for others. My oldest son didn’t forget a single thing so he got to choose supper!
That sounds like fun Kelly! My wife takes on too much of the packing for this to be a fair thing to do, but I think that’s a great way to have fun with what can be a frustrating thing to deal with. I imagine in some families (not yours or mine) the simple act of a daughter forgetting her bathing suit could be a point of bickering and argument, or finger waving in a scolding way. Playing games like these make an ‘oops’ into something lighter and less of a point of tension.
I’m sure you cooked some delicious meals! 🙂
